Embark – your multisport journey starts here

Taking that first step towards your chosen fitness goal is always intimidating for beginners. Whether it be a half marathon, a triathlon, or even just getting a personal coach, Embark can offer help in all these areas.
Embark was launched in 2010, specifically to coach and guide beginners through their first triathlon. Over the years we have diversified, and now run a full years program incorporating an array of goals that we help our athletes each annually. Weekly coached sessions in swim, bike and run are facilitated in groups, providing a safe and motivating environment and encouraging a healthy competitive spirit. We have group training in Atlantic Seaboard, Northern Suburbs, Somerset West, Blouberg, Southern Suburbs and in 2014 we have our first group coaching in Johannesburg.
Whether your goal is to complete your first triathlon or take on the challenge of a half iron-man and ironman, Embark offers all year round goal-orientated group training. Embark also offers one-on-one triathlon coaching as well as personal training, in private gyms, homes or the great outdoors.
Do you have a fitness goal or challenge, but you just don’t know where to start? Do you need to learn to swim, or yearn to be part of a swimming squad? Do you need to learn to ride a bike, or aspire to complete the Argus Cycle Tour in under 3hours? Is completing your first triathlon just a dream?
“I trained with Embark as a complete beginner last year. I never thought it was possible to complete the 70.3, but after a couple of months of consistent training the dream became more of a reality. I ended up completing 70.3 and feeling great! Cant wait for next year! “

Nicol has been a keen road runner from the age of 10, inspired by her father, she had a passion for fitness from an early age. Of course naturally the feel good effect from being fit evolved the desire to be healthy. Living a fit and healthy lifestyle has always been one of her top priorities.

She was introduced to triathlon by supporting her father in PE doing the IRONMAN South Africa. The bug bit and in 2014 she took part in her first triathlon. Since then, Nicol has not only participated, but also mentored and helped many more inspired people to get active and get into triathlon training. Nicol is a personal trainer and coach, and is a very active member in her local triathlon club, Club MSM in Blouberg.

Pushing the boundaries and believing you can achieve whatever you set your mind to, are two key elements in my own training and the training of others.

Meet the Northern Suburbs coach – Camm van Rensburg

cammCamm has always been a sports enthusiast, and excelled in cricket and rugby in his youth. At the age of 23, whilst playing rugby abroad, a knee injury forced him to retire. A decade later, the inactivity and less healthy eating habits took it’s toll… He was diagnosed with hypertension, cholesterol and classified clinically obese.

He refused that this was to define him. Strong willed and focused, he changed his eating habits and began to exercise. At the age of 36, he started training for triathlons, and four years later, he completed his first full ironman.

Camm knows what it feels like to start from scratch. His commitment and passion for the sport is contagious. This lead him to start coaching, as he realized the need for athletes to train safely in groups and learn from other’s experience. Any athlete training with Camm, be it a new comer to the sport or veteran, will benefit from his ability to analyze and interpret their performance.

Camm’s motto is “ anything can be accomplished when you believe in yourself and hard work”

After graduation, he ventured off to see the world and finally settled into South Korea for 8 years, whilst in Korea he picked up cycling again, and rode for a mostly expat team in the Korean Elite Cycling Tour. In 2013 Kylo competed in his 1st triathlon and instantly bitten by the “Tri-Bug”

Kylo went onto Ironman 70.3 races’ in 2015, racing to 3 podiums, climbing to a rank of 17th out of almost 15,000 athletes in his age group, earning the distinction of AWA Gold awarded to the top 1% in age category and qualifying to the 2016 World Championships in Australia.

Distractions in 2016 led to injury and disappointing results which motivated a return to South Africa. The consistent weather and access to facilities in the Helderberg and Winelands region make for ideal training & coaching conditions.
“Endurance is one of the most difficult disciplines, but it is to the one who endures that the final victory comes.” Buddha
