Our tour de Mauritius Marathon a great success…

Ever wanted to run an international marathon? Ever wanted to go to Mauritius? Why not come and join Embark next year at the Lux Mauritius Marathon and Half Marathon

Earlier this year, mid-July we set off on Embarks first international tour, a 7 day tour on the idyllic African island of Mauritius. And because we are sporty, we incorporated the marathon and half marathon. We stayed in Flic n Flac, on the west coast in the middle of the island, notorious for all year round sunny days. Our resort and accommodation was amazing with sprawling white beaches, warm waters and walking distance into the town. The marathon is on the 4th day, so ample time to rest and relax and recharge for the big day.

The marathon is in Bel Ombre, an hours scenic drive to the South of the Island, and the race is spectacular with ever changing scenes on the left, while the coast runs with you on the right. Water stations are really Mauritius style, offering pineapple, banana and coconut pieces , local sweets and of course coca cola if that’s your preference. As the race is along the coast you get to see the race unfold as the marathon runs out and back and picks up the half marathon on route home. So the Embarkers has ample opportunity to clap and cheer the other Embarkers as they crossed, over took and passed each other along the course.

The great thing about the training is that it coincides with the Knysna Marathon and Half marathon groups! So you train in conjunction with them, and can keep motivated through the harder winter training with a nice big group of fun and social people.

It really is a stunning weeks break and mid-July means you can escape the harsh winter and indulge in some sun. Keep an eye on the us, as we will be giving more details about the 2016 Mauritius Tour soon.
