The beginners are becoming TRIATHLETES…

On the 6th August a new group of complete beginners started with Embark. Their journey with Embark will evolve them from complete beginners to athletes, and onwards to triathletes. No level is expected here, the slower, more unfit, less confident the better!
With regular weekly coached group training sessions, the newbies learned and honed their swim bike and run skills. The indulgence of a qualified coach overseeing every session allows fast progression for the newbies, and in a very short space of time they are beginning to join in with the more experienced triathletes training for half ironman.

With both pool and open water swimming training the newbies are learning how to cope with the ever feared mass start of the triathlon. Our newbies are now confident in their triathlon wetsuits and most have learned the skill of getting out of them too!! (this is definitely an art!). We have cycled every weekend as a group, and now the newbies are confident to hop onto their bikes, in their cleats and ride 40kms smiling all the way. With the introduction of the brick sessions (back to back sessions), the newbies are now running off the bike. (this takes a bit of conditioning, but they are learning fast about overcoming the jelly legs).

“I would never EVER have thought I could be a triathlete, I was useless at everything, and now 8 weeks into the program I am ready to attempt my first triathlon, along with my new tri-friends. I would  never have attempted this without the ‘black n red army’! Thanks for the patience and the believe”

We did the Cape Town 10km over the weekend and saw some fantastic results as the newbies all finished their first 10km road run and some of them their first EVER race! It’s a great progression to follow and we love teaching and experiencing the journey with the athletes. Their first triathlon will be the sprint triathlon at the Freshpak Fitness Festival in Clanwilliam on the 3rd October. Keep an eye on us there, at the seasons opening triathlon.

Good luck to all our newbies and a great thanks to our committed and passionate coaches.
