Beginner triathletes complete first Duathlon…

It was a fantastic day out yesterday at Killarney Race Track, as the Embark beginner triathletes took the bull by the horns and completed their first multisport race. It was the sprint duathlon race at the annual Western Province Duathlon Champs. The age groupers raced first (standard distance) and then at 11am the sprint race started. 5km run/20km bike/2.5km run. The duathlon is tougher than triathlon, and the second run is always a killer on the legs. Never underestimate this second run. The wind was also blowing quite hard down the back straight of the race track, but the positives of that is that we got the draft behind us on the way back!

All the Embark athletes finished the race and this gives us great motivation for the next 10 weeks as we aim for our first triathlon. Date scheduled for the 26th May and the race will be the Simons Town Triathlon. (600m swim/35kms ride/5km run).
